A common problem that occurs with the kitchen oven is the door malfunctioning, many homeowners file complaints about oven repair because of a door malfunction over other problems.

The door of the oven is a tricky part and can prevent being closed due to several different reasons, some of them are easy enough for you to try by yourself and save some cash that you would pay a professional. Here are some of the most common faults that cause a door malfunction and how you can attempt to fix them yourself.

Check The Lock-Button

If you have one of the latest designs of ovens at your kitchen, chances are that it is probably going to feature an additional “Lock” a button that is used for self-cleaning. Since we are not well accustomed to the self-cleaning ovens yet, it is very easy to be tricked by this little detail.

If the “Lock” button has been pressed while the door is still open, it will have a hook popped out which is basically to keep the door from opening, but now that there is a bump in the way, it prevents it from closing properly. You simply need to disengage the lock and it will back to perfect.

Cleaning Of The Edges

It is a common routine to be stuffing various food items into the oven and not paying much attention to anything that might have toppled off the top. The debris keeps on building up from food and eventually if it reaches the near edges and gasket of the oven, it prevents the door form fully closing.
Most of the time, thorough cleaning of the edges of the oven is going to do the trick, if there had been any debris that was keeping it from being closed properly, removing it restores the door to its proper function.

Loose OR Mis-Aligned Screws

The grime from the oily foods generally gets built-up around the screw and hinges which either pops them lose or makes them rust.

Cleaning the screws with steel wool, loosening and then re-tightening the screws are going to get the alignment back in place. If it had been an issue of alignment, this will have your oven door opening and closing properly.
